Colorado Fire Near Yosemite

The Colorado Fire is among the major California wildfire developments being reported today.

The blaze is burning in Mariposa County west of Yosemite National Park, near Highway 140 and Colorado Road. Reports indicate that the fire grew rapidly, reaching approximately 250 acres, while threatening dozens of structures.

Evacuation orders and warnings were issued in the Briceburg area, while Colorado Road was closed and Highway 140 was shut down through part of the affected area.

Yosemite National Park itself remained open, although access was restricted because of the Highway 140 closure. Travelers heading toward Yosemite should check current road and park conditions before departing.

Evacuations and Road Closures

Wildfire evacuation zones can change with little notice. Residents in affected areas should immediately follow instructions from local emergency officials.

Road closures can also occur because of flames, smoke, emergency operations or the risk of fire spreading. The Colorado Fire, for example, resulted in a closure affecting Highway 140 near Yosemite.

The latest weather information indicates that storms in the region could produce damaging winds, large hail, torrential rainfall and potentially tornadoes. A National Weather Service warning referenced a confirmed waterspout near Newfane that was moving southeast, highlighting the potential for rapidly developing severe weather across Niagara County.

Is There a Tornado Warning for Lockport, NY?

The latest available alerts show a Tornado Watch in effect for a broad area of Western New York, including Niagara County. A watch means conditions are favorable for tornado development, but it does not necessarily mean that a tornado has been confirmed in Lockport itself.

A separate severe thunderstorm warning has included Lockport and surrounding communities, with the National Weather Service warning of wind gusts of up to 70 mph and quarter-size hail. Forecasters also warned that tornadoes could develop quickly from the storms.

Residents should therefore continue monitoring official alerts because a tornado warning can be issued with little advance notice if radar or storm spotters identify a developing or confirmed tornado.
