Jay Levine, the creator and longtime producer behind Citytv’s influential fashion program Fashion Television, has reportedly passed away at the age of 69.
Levine played a key role in developing Fashion Television, which first premiered in 1985 and eventually became an internationally recognized program. The groundbreaking series reached audiences in more than 120 countries, helping to bring the world of fashion to television viewers across the globe.
Throughout his career with the program, Levine served as both a director and supervising producer. He remained closely involved with Fashion Television for 27 years, contributing to its success from its early beginnings until the show’s final season in 2012.
Following news of his passing, former Citytv videographer Patrick Reynolds paid tribute to Levine, remembering him as a gifted professional and a genuinely kind and gracious person.
Reynolds reflected on the years he spent working at the historic CHUM City Building on Queen Street West, where he had the opportunity to witness Levine’s contributions firsthand. He described Levine as someone with a quiet brilliance who brought a great deal of talent and creativity to his work.

He remembered Levine as thoughtful, witty, sophisticated, and unassuming, with a strong personality and clear opinions. Despite his accomplishments, Levine was said to possess a calm and understated approach to leadership, never feeling the need to draw unnecessary attention to himself.
According to Reynolds, Levine helped shape the distinctive identity of Citytv during some of its most influential years. His creative vision and professional contributions played an important role in establishing Fashion Television as a celebrated program.
