According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the crash involved a Ford Edge that veered off the southbound lanes near the Lincoln Avenue off-ramp. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck a guardrail before colliding with a concrete pillar. The impact caused the SUV to continue moving, eventually overturning after hitting a sloped embankment.
Levi Jacob Flores was one of four teenagers inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Sadly, he was among those who died at the scene due to the severity of the accident. Authorities revealed that the force of the crash led to occupants being ejected from the vehicle, highlighting the violent nature of the incident.
Two others were rushed to an area hospital with major injuries, where one was later pronounced dead.
The deceased were later identified as Levi Jacob Flores, 15, of Garden Grove; Robert Miguel Gutierrez-Avalos, 16, of Santa Ana; and Victor Hugo Delgado, 17, of Santa Ana.
Investigators have indicated that none of the teens were wearing seat belts, a factor that may have significantly contributed to the fatal outcome. Witness accounts suggest the driver may have missed the intended exit and attempted a sudden maneuver, leading to a loss of control at high speed.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported the injured victims to a nearby hospital. While one survivor remains hospitalized with serious injuries, the loss of Levi and the other teens has left an irreplaceable void in their families and communities.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of drugs or alcohol playing a role in the crash. For now, the focus remains on remembering Levi Jacob Flores, a young individual whose life ended too soon, leaving behind grief, unanswered questions, and a call for greater awareness about road safety among young drivers.
